College Football Week 2 Pass/Fail Report: Sun Belt

Week 2 Conference Record: 6-3

Pass: Georgia Southern, Appalachian State, UL-Monroe, Coastal Carolina, Texas State, Troy

Georgia Southern: The Eagles are having a strong start coming off the season they had a year ago. Chad Lunsford has made people feel a lot better about the direction of the program as it stands right now. Wesley fields rushed for 141 yards in a win over U Mass, and the Eagles held U Mass star QB Andrew Ford under 200 yards.

Appalachian State: Zac Thomas passed for 3 scores, 2 to Corey Xavier Sutton, and the Mountaineers used a 21-0 second half to pull away in a 45-9 win over Charlotte on the road. Appalachian State is looking serious about a run to win the Sun Belt title in 2018.

UL-Monroe: The War Hawks are now 2-0, and got solid defense when it matterd in the 4th quarter to sneak out a 21-20 win over Southern Miss on the road. This is a huge start, and a signal that ULM is moving in the right direction under Matt Viator.

Coastal Carolina: Marcus Outlow rushed for 140 yards and 2 scores, and the Chanticleers upset UAB at home last weekend 47-24. CCU was a double digit underdog in this game, and picked up a huge win that may very well build some confidence after a tough 2017 campaign.

Texas State: You have to give TSU credit when they win, no matter when it is or who it may be against. For the hapless Bobcats, any win is a great win, even a 36-20 win over Texas Southern.

Troy: Troy jumped out to a 38-7 lead at the half against Florida A&M, and never looked back in a 59-7 win. The schedule gets tougher now for this rebuilt offense, so now we are looking to see who steps up and grows from this easy win.

Fail: Arkansas State, Georgia State, South Alabama

Arkansas State: The Red Wolves were supposed to be one of the class teams of the G5, but they, in no way, looked like that against Alabama, as the Tide rolled on them from every direction. The offense never got moving, the defense was a mess, and nothing worked in the loss.

Georgia State: Remember that the Panthers barely beat Kennesaw State in week one. You should not be shocked then that the Panthers got decimated by NC State 41-7. It should make complete sense.

South Alabama: Steve Campbell has a big job ahead of him getting the Jaguars on track. They were anything but in a 42 point loss to Oklahoma State last weekend. USA is in for a tough go in 2018.
