College Football Week 2 Pass/Fail Report: SEC

Week 2 Conference Record: 10-3

Pass: Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, LSU, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Missouri

Alabama: Arkansas State is a solid G5 program, and Alabama made them look completely inept in a 57-7 beat down over the weekend. Tua Tagovailoa passed for 4 scores, and the Crimson Tide led 40-0 at the half. The Tide is in full championship mode now.

Georgia: People questioned what Georgia would bring into Columbia last weekend, a place where they have struggled recently. The Bulldogs showed that they, too, are in championship mode and dominated the Gamecocks 41-17. Georgia is for real.

Auburn: It's hard to get excited about a crushing of a SWAC team by a member of the SEC. Auburn crushed Alabama State. Big whoop.

LSU: Same as Auburn, the Tigers handle SE Louisiana at home, but did not exactly run away in a 31-0 win over the Lions. LSU should not even be playing teams like this.

Mississippi State: The Bulldogs went on the road last weekend, which SEC teams are abhorrent about doing. It was a much better test than a game against Stephen F. Austin was, and the Bulldogs handled it like masters, as they crushed Kansas State 31-10 in the Little Apple. Kylin Hill was the hero of the day for MSU, as he rushed for 211 yards and 2 scores in the win.

Kentucky: The Wildcats had one of the biggest wins of the weekend last week, as they beat Florida for the first time since 1986 27-16. Benny Snell had another big game running the football, as he finished with 175 yards in the win.

Vanderbilt: The Commodores are now out to a 2-0 start, which is taking some pressure off of Derek Mason, who needs a solid season and a bowl to likely keep his job. Vandy outscored Nevada 24-0 after the half in a 41-10 win. Kyle Shurmer passed for 258 yards and 2 TDs.

Tennessee: Another game against a very weak FCS opponent for an SEC school. Beating East Tennessee State by any score is hardly impressive in any way, but a win is a win, and they did so in big fashion, winning 59-3. Still, call me unimpressed.

Missouri: Drew Lock passed for 398 yards and 4 TDs against what is supposed to be one of the better defenses in the nation, and Missouri rocked Wyoming 40-13. Emanuel Hall caught 10 passes for the Tigers in the win.

Fail: Ole Miss, Arkansas, Florida

Ole Miss: The Rebels allowed Southern Illinois to score 38 points in the first half alone, and had to score 76 to ensure the win over their FCS opponent this week. That has to be a scary issue for Rebel fan, that your team is a train wreck defensively.

Arkansas: Chad Morris did not ingratiate himself to Razorback fan by having his team completely meltdown against a Colorado State team that has not been able to get out of their own way this season. Arkansas should not ever lose this kind of game, even on the road. It was an embarrassment.

Florida: Losing to Kentucky probably did not make Dan Mullen many friends in Gainesville last weekend. The offense is still a complete mess, and when you are Florida getting outclassed on the field by Kentucky, that is a major issue. Feleipe Franks finished well under 50% on the day passing.
