Give Morris some credit for getting SMU back to respectability, but he did not blow the roof off the joint, and never got close to winning a divisional title or conference title in the AAC.
Morris was hired away from Clemson when he was the OC for the Tigers to get SMU football rolling, but his overall college coaching record of just 14-22 does not get the job done at a school desperate to become competitive in the SEC West, as they have watched the upper level schools in their division (Alabama, Auburn) run away from the pack.
Morris was a high school coaching legend when hired by Tulsa to be their OC, and had some credible successes as a coordinator. He needs to show now that he can be who people believe him to be at Arkansas, or else his head coaching career could come to an abrupt full stop.
Arkansas opens with Eastern Illinois at home this week.
