FBS Conference Title Chase Update: MAC

MAC

Still in it: Buffalo, Ohio, Northern Illinois, Western Michigan

On the Edge: Miami (OH), Akron, Toledo

Elimination Zone: Kent State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Ball State, Central Michigan

The Breakdown: Buffalo completely controls their own destiny at this point in the East, and they beat Miami (OH) this week to solidify that spot. The Bulls will get Kent State next week in what should be an easy win, and then will play Ohio on 11/14 in what should be a divisional title game. With an Ohio loss in that game, Buffalo has won the East. Buffalo concludes the season then against Bowling Green, which should also be a solid win for the Bulls.
Ohio simply has to win out, but a loss to Western Michigan tonight could very well end things early for the Bobcats, and make the Buffalo game moot. Ohio has one option, and that is win everything.

In the West, Northern Illinois controls things, and is 4-0 in conference play, but the schedule is not easy moving forward. A trip to Akron comes tonight, followed by Toledo at home, Miami (OH) at home, and then Western Michigan on the road in the finale. Nothing is set here.
Western Michigan has to win out, starting with Ohio tonight. They cannot afford one more loss and have any shot to control their destiny, as they do now. Western lost to Toledo last weekend, but Toledo is still in a chase position. A loss to Ohio tonight places Western in the 3 spot in the West, with Toledo leapfrogging them. Toledo would still need to beat NIU, and would need WMU to beat NIU in the finale to take the division title. For the Rockets, winning out, and getting some help is still the only option.

Top Week 10 Games: Northern Illinois at Akron; Ohio at Western Michigan

Coaches on the Hot Seat: Chuck Martin, Miami (OH); Mike Neu, Ball State

Already Fired: Mike Jinks, Bowling Green (Carl Pelini is Interim)
