What to Expect From College Football Week 6: AAC

AAC
No team in the league has done more shocking this season than Cincinnati, who is now off to a 5-0 start after blowing out U Conn last week. Cincy now gets an interesting test against Tulane, who took Memphis to task last week for their first conference win of 2018. Tulane will run the ball hard on the Bearcats, but UC has been solid in that area this season. We could be looking forward to a Cincinnati team pushing for a division title in November when they play USF and UCF in back to back weeks.

USF is playing out of conference this week against U Mass, and this should be an easy week for the Bulls before getting back into conference play next week at Tulsa, which should also be a fairly easy week for the Bulls.

No team has come within less than 20 points of UCF this season, and they routed Pitt last week. SMU is next on the docket, and while SMU beat Navy in OT, the Mustangs do not have a roster that looks as if it can push the Knights this week. UCF rolls in their second conference game.

Temple had a 2 game winning streak snapped last week against Boston College, but the Owls get a solid shot to bounce back this week against a very bad East Carolina team in their second conference game. Staying in step with the leaders is all important now for Temple, and a win over the Pirates moves them to 2-0 in AAC play. East Carolina lost to USF 2 weeks ago, and a loss here creates a mountain for them to move heading into the second month of the season.

The U Conn train wreck continues onward, as the Huskies have still not beaten an FBS opponent as we head into October. This is an all important game for Memphis, as they are off to an 0-2 start in AAC play. A loss here would be incredibly shocking, and would remove Memphis from the conference race for good. They are lucky now o play in the West, which is considerably weaker than the East.

Navy is another AAC team playing out of conference, as they take on their annual contest with Air Force. The Falcons are on a 3 game skid, while Navy is coming off a loss to lowly SMU last weekend in OT. Navy is beginning a crucible part of their schedule, and every week is tougher than the next moving forward.

Houston debuts in AAC play against Tulsa this week, but Tulsa shocked the Cougars in a blowout last year in a severely bad year for the Golden Hurricanes. Revenge is on the mind for the Cougars, who have an open road to the AAC West title right now. Tulsa has already lost one game in conference play, and another would be too much to overcome.

Coaches Who Need a Win This Week: Randy Edsell, U Conn; Scottie Montgomery, East Carolina; Geoff Collins, Temple; Willie Fritz, Tulane; Phillip Montgomery, Tulsa
