Week 2 Conference Record: 4-6
Pass: Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Buffalo, Kent State, Akron
Ball State: Cardinals lost to Notre Dame, but they made a solid game of it late in the 4th quarter and they pushed the Irish to the brink. The defense also pushed Brandon Wimbush into 3 INTs on the day, so take your wins where you can get them. This was a confidence builder.
Eastern Michigan: EMU got one of their best wins in school history in the final seconds by beating Purdue on the road. The Eagles are now 2-0 out of the gate, and Chris Creighton has another solid team early on. Tyler Wiegers passed for 312 yards and a score in the win.
Buffalo: Tyree Jackson continues to evolve at QB, as he passed for 375 yards and 3 TDs, and Anthony Johnson caught 6 passes, one for a score, as Buffalo used a late rally to beat Temple. The Bulls are now 2-0 out of the gate, and look solid for MAC play to begin.
Kent State: Justin Rankin rushed for 147 yards and a score, and the Golden Flashes used a 21 point 3rd quarter to put away Howard for good in a 51-14 win. Kent State led 26-0 at the half, but Kent State showed some fight in the 3rd as well, before the Kent State defense out them away in the 4th quarter for good by shutting out the Bison in the final quarter of play.
Akron: The Zips bounced back from a game one cancellation due to weather by hammering FCS member Morgan State 41-7. Kato Nelson tossed 3 TD passes in the easy win over the Bears, and Van Edwards rushed for 109 yards and 2 scores in the win.
Fail: Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Bowling Green, Northern Illinois, Miami (Ohio)
Western Michigan: After rolling up 42 points in a loss to Syracuse, the Broncos allow 49 to Michigan, and they are giving up 52 points per game with an 0-2 start.
Central Michigan: The Chippewas are now 0-2, and never got off the bus against a Kansas team that they beat a year ago. The offense never got going, and CMU never scored until the 3rd quarter in a 31-7 loss.
Bowling Green: The Falcons led Maryland 14-10 at the half, and promptly never scored again in a 45-14 loss to the Terps. Jarret Doege was held to just 147 yards passing in the loss, and Bowling Green is now 0-2.
Northern Illinois: The Huskies came up short again to another Power 5 opponent in a 17-6 loss to Utah at home. The Huskies are scoring just 6.5 points per game on offense, and are allowing 25. NIU is now 0-2 on the season, and have plenty of tough dates left on the slate.
Miami (Ohio): Chuck Martin has to be in jeopardy of being fired after yet another loss, this time a 21-0 blanking by arch rival Cincinnati. The Redhawks are 0-2 after being favored in both games.
