Coaches Swimming in the Dead Pool: Week 2 Update

It's time once again to see who lurks in the deep pool of coaches who are in danger of imminent firing, as they have no life jacket to cling to. Who is in danger of drowning this week?

David Beaty, Kansas: Kansas broke a 46 game road losing streak in a win over Central Michigan last week, and now people are having delusions of grandeur with Rutgers coming in this week. Kansas can certainly win the game, but they can certainly lose it as well. A win may slide him out of the pool to the heated seat, but only by just so much. A loss may cement his place on the firing line.

Kliff Kingsbury, Texas Tech: I am sorry if a big win over Lamar does not have me very excited. The Red Raiders take on Houston this week, and a loss would, again, likely cement his place as a former coach.

Scottie Montgomery, East Carolina: In a toilet bowl game of sorts last week, Montgomery found another way to make Larry Fedora look stupid when the Pirates, who had lost to North Carolina A&T the week before, laid a 41-19 ass kicking on the Tar Heels. I don't think that changes much with Montgomery's status this week, but if he can build on it, you never know.

Lovie Smith, Illinois: The only 2-0 coach on the list has wins over Kent State and Western Illinois. They almost lost to Kent State, and Western Illinois was completely in the game last weekend through the half. Illinois is going to get crushed when they have to play someone.

Mike Jinks, Bowling Green: The Falcons had Maryland worried at halftime last week with a 14-10 lead at the half, and then they basically left the stadium 2 quarters early, as Maryland won 45-14. Bowling Green is a mess, and Jinks was a terrible hire in every way.

Everett Withers, Texas State: The Bobcats picked up a win over Texas Southern. That is not a win that saves one from the Dead Pool. Keep on swimming...

Expect a larger list next week when the Dead Pool returns! Get out your floaty, as it will be a wild ride once again in week 3!
