College Football Week 2 Pass/Fail Report: Big 10

Conference Week 2 Record: 9-5

Pass: Ohio State, Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan, Iowa, Maryland, Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota

Ohio State: Dwayne Haskins passes for 4 scores, and backup Tate Martell rushed for 95 yards and a score on 8 carries. Buckeyes are for real.

Wisconsin: It was another slow start, and another ATS loss for the Badgers, but they put the jets on when they needed to in a win over New Mexico that saw Jonathin Taylor rush for 253 yards and 3 scores. Badgers are clear favorites in the West.

Penn State: It was not a perfect night for Penn State despite the score in a 51-6 drubbing of Pitt. McSorley completes just 14/30 pass attempts for 145 yards in the win, but it was clearly a better all around effort than the week before in a near loss to Appalachian State.

Michigan: Michigan still will not be overly challenged for another couple of weeks with SMU coming up, and Western Michigan was not the team to push the Wolverines in a 49-3 Michigan win. Shea Patterson was far from solid, but still managed 3 TD passes.

Iowa: Hawkeyes defense is now allowing just 5 points per game after a 13-3 win over Iowa State. Hawkeyes offense is still not great, but with that defense, they can survive a while longer.

Maryland: Terps were in trouble at the half against Bowling Green, but then woke up in a 45-14 win over the Falcons. Maryland scored 28 unanswered points in the 4th quarter in this win to put it away, and are now 2-0 in the shadow of off-season drama.

Indiana: Stevie Scott rushed for 204 yards, and Peyton Ramsey passed for 2 scores as the Hoosiers held off Virginia in what amounts to an important Power 5 win for Indiana.

Illinois: Illinois got pushed around by another lesser team in Western Illinois this week, as the Illini led just 14-7 at the half, before they pulled away for a 34-14 win. A win is a win for this program, but trouble is ahead.

Minnesota: The Gophers very well could have lost to Fresno State at home, but found a way to pull it out in a 21-14 win over the Bulldogs. Every win is a confidence builder in the rebuilding project under PJ Fleck.

Fail: Rutgers, Michigan State, Northwestern, Purdue, Nebraska

Rutgers: It's still painfully obvious that Rutgers is way out of their element in the Big 10, as they fall to Ohio State 56-3.

Michigan State: Mark Dantonio's stock is plummeting after a terrible 16-13 road loss to Arizona State. That Utah State game was no fluke, it would appear.

Northwestern: Wildcats looked so strong in win over Purdue, and then they fall completely apart in loss to Duke. Another year, and I have no idea what this team is about.

Purdue: The Boilermakers are one of the biggest disappointments nationally after a loss to Eastern Michigan i the closing minute drops them to 0-2. Again, this team is trash now in tight situations.

Nebraska: Frost era is not off to the best start after the Huskers fell big early, clawed back, and threw it away late. Adrian Martinez got hurt in his debut, and now nobody knows what will happen with him this week against Troy, but the news was decent coming from the doctors. Frost will get this thing going, but it will take a little time.
