Best College Football Wins of Week 8

With a full weekend now at a close, it's time to see who came through with the biggest week 8 wins in college football...

Clemson 41, NC State 7
With the highly anticipated battle of the unbeatens in ACC play this week, Clemson, as vulnerable as they have been at times, still managed to show why Vegas had them as a 17 point favorite. It was 31-0 Tigers after 3 quarters, and the Wolfpack showed they that they will still struggle in big games. Clemson is now the absolute favorite to run away with the ACC crown.

Virginia 28, Duke 14
For the Cavaliers, this proved that they are a real player in the ACC, and that Bronco Mendenhall was tha absolute correct choice to be hired as head coach. Virginia is very much in play for a division title, but still are not in the class of Clemson. Still, UVA being in a conference race would not have been a thing just 2 years ago.

Florida State 38, Wake Forest 17
Willie Taggart needed a big win at home, and it was a great win for a hurricane ravaged region. The Seminoles are playing for a bowl bid, and little else, but this was a win that was absolutely needed, and for many reasons.

Temple 24, Cincinnati 17
The Owls have rebounded big time after a sluggish start to the season, and found a way to knock of a previously unbeaten Bearcats team to remain unbeaten in AAC play. Temple, USF, and UCF just narrowed down what was a very muddled race in the East.

Oklahoma 52, TCU 27
The Sooner defense held the Frogs to just 3 points after the half, and avoided a team that had upset on their mind. With the win, Oklahoma stays in contention for the second spot in the Big 12 title game in December. This win was bigger than you know.

Purdue 49, Ohio State 20
When the Buckeyes crumble in the chase for a national title, they normally do so in spectacular fashion. Iowa last season, now Purdue in 2018. The Boilermakers dominated the Buckeyes from start to finish, and now Michigan is the team in charge of their own destiny.

Michigan 21, Michigan State 7
The Wolverines had not beaten a ranked team on the road in 17 tries. They snapped that mark, and with the Ohio State loss, the Wolverines have taken charge in what was supposed to be a very muddy Eastern Division.

Iowa 23, Maryland 0
It's time to wake up on the Hawkeyes, who, very quietly, have moved to 6-1 overall, and 3-1 in Big 10 play. Iowa could very well find themselves in the Big 10 title game, especially if Wisconsin can lose once more.

Nebraska 53, Minnesota 28
It's just bizarre to see the Huskers in the state that they are in, even if I have seen it coming for 2 years. Getting that first win under Scott Frost was huge for the program and the young men on the team. Confidence has been increasing, and the Huskers are getting better.

UAB 29, North Texas 21
The Blazers are 4-0 in CUSA play now, and 6-1 overall. North Texas was essentially knocked out in the West with this loss, while UAB is now in charge in the overall conference title picture. This was a huge win for Bill Clark's football team, whose only loss came to Coastal Carolina.

Buffalo 31, Toledo 17
I am still trying to understand how Toledo was ever favored in this game, as Buffalo ran their record to 7-1 and 4-0 in the MAC. The Bulls lone loss this season came against Army, and they are likely cruising to a MAC East title, if they can beat Ohio later this season.

Boise State 56, Colorado State 28
The Broncos needed to show that they can still lay down a beating when they need to, and after recent weeks, they absolutely needed to against a Colorado State team that had earlier been beaten by Illinois State.

Stanford 20, Arizona State 13
The Cardinal are struggling on offense, but they got a much needed win to stay in lock step with the North leaders on a night when they were far from their best. With the league in chaos every single weekend, Stanford needs to get into a rhythm if they are to steel the North title in the PAC-12.

Washington State 34, Oregon 20
Try as they might to give the game away, the Cougs raced out to a 27-0 lead at the half, and then managed to hold on and score late to beat the Ducks for the 4th straight season, after Oregon had beaten Washington the week before. It's going to be another wild finish in the PAC-12 this season.

Washington 27, Colorado 13
The Huskies managed to pull away in the 4th from a Buffs team that needed to stop some bleeding. A loss likely would have put the Huskies out of conference title consideration, but this was a win they needed, and they got it.

Utah 41, USC 28
Utah now controls their own destiny in the PAC-12 South with a huge home win over a struggling USC club. The schedule is fairly decent moving forward for the Utes, and they have become the hottest team in the PAC-12 right now.

UCLA 31, Arizona 30
Chip Kelly has his first winning streak as coach of the Bruins, and as crazy as it sounds, UCLA, at 2-5, is a half game out of the South lead of the PAC-12 with Utah next on the slate.
