Bilo's College Football PASS/FAIL Reports Week 7: Independents
PASS: Army, BYU
I won’t go on too much about what Army did this week. They completely demolished Lafayette. There’s no real challenge in that. Do better, Army.
Kilane Sitaki has to be given credit. After a sluggish and awful start to the season, BYU has gotte it together under the running of Jamaal Williams, and with a stout defensive effort (Toledo game subtracted), and now BYU is 4-3, and is 2 wins away from a bowl bid. Taysom Hill, however, is still a shell of his former self.
FAIL: Coastal Carolina, U Mass, Notre Dame
Coastal Carolina trailed Gardner-Webb heading into the final quarter 7-3, and then opened up with 2 scores to escape with a 17-7 win. Their defense kept them alive in this one, but they were lucky to get away with this win.
U Mass lost again. News flash…this is old news. At this point, the Minutemen should consider following the Idaho road back to FCS football, and beg the Colonial to take them back. It was a mistake to ever move up for this program in a part of the country where college football is an afterthought.
I was saying a couple of weeks ago that Brian Kelly was on the hot seat, but was likely safe through 2017 either way. I can no longer say that with certainty after the Irish were beaten by an undermanned Stanford club at home to drop to 2-5. This tea had playoff expectations this season. There is no good excuse for this mess, and Kelly is neck deep in it.
