Pass/Fail 1-AA for 9/25

Here are the results of Saturday's 1-AA games...

Morehead State 45, Marist 39
Pass: Zach Lewis too control for the Eagles by passing for 4 scores, as MSU held off the Red Foxes.
Marist: Lack of defense and blowing a 3rd quarter lead (allowing a 21-0 run) killed Marist, and now they fall to the lower levels of the PFL.

Robert Morris 30, Wagner 9
Pass: The Colonials didn't have to kill a giant, but they sure killed the Seahawks.
Fail: Wagner could not get a RB to go over 37 yards, and QB Nick Doscher was held to 121 and 4 picks.

Duquesne 28, Albany 17
Pass: The Dukes had a 200 yard passer, a 100 yard rusher, and a 100 yard receiver in the win...the victorious trinity.
Fail: QB Dan DiLella had a miserable day for the Great Danes, completing only 14 of 37 and tossing a pair of picks.

Central Connecticut State 41, Bryant 24
Pass: The Blue Devils scored 17 in both the 2nd and 3rd quarters to put the game away.
Fail: Bryan built a 10-0 1st quarter lead and then imploded.

New Hampshire 31, Lehigh 10
Pass: UNH needed a big win to recover from the Pittsburgh loss and the Rhode Island upset loss, and they got a solid win back home.
Fail: Lehigh is not competing this season, and they are falling off of the radar faster than Santa on Christmas.

North Greenville 34, Presbyterian 17
Pass: NG rushed for 273 yards and Clemson transfer QB Willie Corn tossed a pair of TD strikes, as the Crusaders of D2 defeated PC for the first time ever.
Fail: You can excuse PC for falling to Clemson and Wake Forest, but to lose against a D2 team to fall to 0-4 is a terrible thing.

Yale 21, Cornell 7
Pass: The Bulldogs got 124 yards rushing from Alex Thomas, and another 89 yards rushing from Mordecai Cargill, and also got 232 yards from QB Patrick Witt in the win.
Fail: The Big Red could not break through Yale's D after the first quarter and Booker Tandy was held to 27 yards on 15 carries.

Columbia 24, Towson 10
Pass: Nick Gerst had his first career rushing TD and Calvin Otis picked off a pair of passes for the Lions.
Fail: The Tigers had their chances, but bad blocking and turnovers were a plague.

Assumption 30, Fordham 24
Pass: Andrew Kupec (279 yards) found Marcus Nichols on a 4 yard toss to put Assumption up 27-24 with 5:41 left, and the D2 Greyhounds never looked back.
Fail: Fordham loses to a D2 team, after falling to brand new 1-AA member Bryant in the opener.

Jacksonville 42, Davidson 15
Pass: Josh McGregor passes for 405 yards and is named PFL player of the week.
Fail: Kenny Mantuo had 3 carries for 13 yards before going out with an injury, forcing the Wildcats into uncomfortable territory without their leading back.

Georgia State 24, Campbell 21
Pass: The start up Panthers have split their first 4 going 2-2 under Bill Curry.
Fail: Campbell is dropping like a stone, but they are losing the close ones...3 points between this week and last week separating 2 losses from 2 wins.

Old Dominion 35, Monmouth 21
Pass: Oh the Monarchs needed this one...and Thomas DeMarco gave them 405 yards passing in the effort, with 154 of those yards going to Prentice Gill.
Fail: The Hawks trailed 27-7 at the half and had to race back to get close.

Dartmouth 21, Sacred Heart 19
Pass: Dominick Pierre had a solid rushing effort for the Big Green with 110 yards and a pair of scores.
Fail: A missed FG killed the Pioneers, and since they opened the PRS in the top 35, they have fallen faster than BP's credibility on safety standards.

Tuskegee 21, Texas Southern 14
Pass: The Golden Tigers forced 5 fumbles, including one on the final drive that got close to scoring for TSU.
Fail: TSU loses the five turnovers, and a bunch of PRS points by dropping one to the D2 Golden Tigers.

Albany (GA) State 28, Savannah State 14
Pass: The Golden Rams rushed for 291 yards against 78 for the Tigers.
Fail: Savannah State's credibility as a 1-AA program is not stable at all, and has not been for a very long time now...drop down already!!!

Georgetown 17, Holy Cross 7
Pass: The Hoyas bounce back from a tough loss a week ago, and will crawl back in the PRS.
Fail: Holy Cross is simply falling apart since getting drilled at UMass.

Furman 31, Citadel 14
Pass: The Paladins come back from a strong performance against South Carolina to take down the solid Bulldogs this week.
Fail: Citadel looks like they are still reeling from the thumping that they took at Arizona.

Drake 21, Valporaiso 19
Pass: Drake built on 21-6 lead on very little offense.
Fail: Valpo special teams killed the dream of their first win...the Crusaders are the worst team in the country, if not for Savannah State.

Jacksonville State 28, Eastern Illinois 23
Pass: Jamal Young rushed for 162 yards, and JSU has won 8 straight, and 8 away from home, best in the FCS.
Fail: EIU is off to an 0-4 start, yet JSU still tried to let the Panthers back into the game.

Appalachian State 35, Samford 17
Pass: ASU keeps on pushing JSU for the #1 spot in the PRS.
Fail: Samford was bout to crack the PRS top 20, but now will fall out close.

Montana 28, Sacramento State 25
Pass: The Grizzlies avoid a 1-3 start in 2010 by narrowly escaping the Hornets.
Fail: The Hornets played pound for pound with the Grizzlies for 3 quarters, but couldn't find the push in the 4th to take down Montana.

Montana State 30, Eastern Washington 7
Pass: The Bobcats scored on a pick 6 and off of a faked FG and are trying to change the balance of power in the Big Sky.
Fail: Penalties, turnovers, and a general lack of focus doomed the Eagles on the road.

Morgan State 20, Howard 3
Pass: The Bears scored their first 2 TDs of the season in the Meadowlands.
Fail: Howard is just not good in any way.

Tennessee State 29, Florida A&M 18
Pass: The dormant Tigers woke up in a big way by beating the #6 Rattlers.
Fail: The Rattlers had been in cruise mode after falling to Miami in the opener...what happened?

Fail: The Spiders are missing former HC Mike London badly right now.

Fail: Clark netted just 37 yards rushing on the day.

Bethune-Cookman 21, Norfolk State 7

Fail: NSU held the ball nearly 10 minutes longer than the Wildcats, yet failed to score until late.

Youngstown State 31, Southern Illinois 28
Pass: YSU trailed 14-0 in the 1st, but forced 4 turnovers and came back for a solid win.
Fail: SIU failed to dig the knife into the gut of the Penguins when they ahd the chance, and now the season is looking lost for the Salukis.

Western Illinois 40, Indiana State 7
Pass: Bryce Flowers ran for 192 yards and Caulton Ray rushed for 115, while both added two scores each for the Leathernecks...WIU also held the Sycamores to 173 yards of offense.
Fail: Welcome back to the bottom, Indiana State. ISU has been a permanent resident in the MVC basement.

Alabama State 41, Alcorn State 21
Pass: The Braves jumped out to a 31-14 lead at the half against the previously third ranked Hornets.
Fail: Alabama State was sailing this season, and then hit the ice burg "dead ahead"...this one wasn't even close.

Nicholls State 44, Bacone 28
Pass: NSU finally found someone that even they could take to the woodshed.
Fail: Bacone was out of their element, but Nicholls was beatable...even for an NAIA school.

North Dakota 49, Northwestern State 24
Pass: The Fighting Sioux got a win against a team from a better conference, and Jake Landry had 300 yards passing in the win.
Fail: The Demons have now lost 13 of their last 14.

Pass: The Lumberjacks pulled ahead 29-0 and the D recorded 6 sacks, 2 picks, and a safety.
Fail: ISU was held to just 151 yards of offense, and allowed NAU to go 5 for 5 in the red zone...not getting it done in Pocatello.

Brown 29, Harvard 14
Pass: The Bears won their first night game at Brown Stadium...PK Alex Norocea kicked 5 FGs.
Fail: Harvard, which looked very strong in the win over Holy Cross, had issues generating any consistency on offense.

Coastal Carolina 34, Delaware State 14
Pass: The Chanticleers won their first game and raced out to a 31-0 half time lead.
Fail: The Hornets held onto the ball for 13 minutes more than CCU and still could not generate points.

Chattanooga 27, Western Carolina 21
Pass: BJ Coleman passed for 259 yards and a pair of scores for the Mocs, who were placed on probation.
Fail: Brandon Pechloff completed just 9 of 21 for 127 yards for the Catamounts.

Georgia Southern 38, Elon 21
Pass: The Eagles piled up 508 total yards against the Phoenix in the SoCon opener for both teams, including 121 yards by Lee Banks.
Fail: Elon allowed 17 points in the 4th quarter...notice the margin of victory.

Princeton 36, Lafayette 33 (2OT)
Pass: The Tigers came back from a 21-10 deficit, and won in double OT on Jordan Culbreath's 2 yard run.
Fail: Strange stat fact this week with losing teams with wide margins in time of possession...such was the case here.

William & Mary 24, Maine 21
Pass: Mike Paulus hit Chase Hill from 21 yards out with 0:20 left on the clock and the Tribe stole one in Orono.
Fail: Maine allowed 21 points in the 4th quarter and lost a game that they should have won.

James Madison 10, Liberty 3
Pass: The Dukes defense allowed Mike Brown to pass for 203 yards, but he never gained traction in the run game, which was key.
Fail: QB Drew Dudzik never got going in the passing game for the Dukes, but still managed to rush for 80 yards.

UMass 26, Stony Brook 21
Pass: UMass didn't play their best game, but they were ripe for an emotional letdown after the Michigan loss...and they managed to survive it.
Fail: Stony Brook had a shot at a signature win for their program, but managed to come up short against the vulnerable Minutemen.

North Carolina Central 27, North Carolina A&T 16
Pass: The Eagles got a good jump in the MEAC, as Tim Shankle surpassed 2000 yards rushing for his career.
Fail: NC A&T looks lost, as does the season for them.

Grambling 34, Prairie View 17
Pass: The Tigers got a huge shot in the arm by beating the Panthers,as this win will be enough to push them into the top 35 of the Bilo Poll (PRS).
Fail: The Panthers had pulled within 3, and then allowed Grambling to go on a huge run, and they have now lost 3 straight.

Dayton 45, Central State 13
Pass: The Flyers jumped out at the half to a 38-0 lead.
Fail: Central State was held to 34 yards rushing.

Villanova 22, Penn 10
Pass: The Wildcats won when Chris Whitney hit Norman White from 21 out with just under 5:00 on the clock, and the Cats split with the city of Philadelphia after losing to Temple.
Fail: Once again, the Quakers held the ball longer, and had fewer penalties, but still found a way to lose.

Alabama A&M 34, Southern 14
Pass: Deaunte Mason passed for 4 scores and the Bulldogs came back from a 14-0 deficit by going on a 34-0 run.
Fail: Southern jumped out to a 14-0 lead and then got complacent, which leads to losing.

Southeast Missouri 23, Tennessee Tech 21
Pass: Henry Harris ran for 196 yards in the win, and was named OVC offensive player of the week.
Fail: Tech only had the ball for just over 22 minutes and gave up 14 more 1st downs than they had.

Jackson State 43, Mississippi Valley State 7
Pass: The Tigers ran away behind Casey Therriault's 4 TD passes.
Fail: MVSU is a non-entity...what happened to those Willie Totten to Jerry Rice days?

Texas State 42, Southern Utah 28
Pass: Tyler Arndt had a TD pass and 2 more scores on the ground, and the Bobcats survived an offensive onslaught by the ThunderBirds.
Fail: Hard to fault SUU, but when you put up as much offense as they did, you should win a game...the defense failed.

Stephen F. Austin 71, Lamar 3
Pass: The Lumberjacks sent a loud message to the rest of the Southland Conference while holding the Cardinals to 176 yards and 9 1st downs in the rout.
Fail: Welcome back to the game of football Lamar, and try not to get used to losing like this.

Sam Houston State 30, Gardner-Webb 14
Pass: The Bearkats had the ball almost ten minutes less than the Bulldogs, but made the most of it with a balanced offense.
Fail: The Bulldogs only rushed for 57 yards on the day.

Murray State 52, Tennessee-Martin 16
Pass: The Racers ran out to a 42-14 lead as Casey Brockman ran for 2 scores while completing 8 of 8 passes.
Fail: The Skyhawks gave points away on special teams and had a porous run defense...this was a disaster.

North Dakota State 38, South Dakota 16
Pass: The Bison outscored the Coyotes 31-3 after the half.
Fail: The Coyotes actually held a lead at the half.

Illinois State 44, Missouri State 41 (2OT)
Pass: Both teams played a phenomenal game in front of a TV audience. What a shootout.
Fail: If you like defense, than this was not the game for you. I liked what I saw though.

Cal Poly 40, McNeese State 14
Pass: The Mustangs went on a 37-0 run, and held the Cowboys to 52 yards rushing.
Fail: Cal Poly is not a very good road team, but the Cowboys made them feel right at home.

Weber State 20, UC-Davis 9
Pass: Cameron Higgins passed for 248 yards in the win.
Fail: This was not a good preview for UC-Davis as they plan to join the Big Sky in 2012.

San Diego 24, Butler needed this win in the worst way, and they got the shutout to boot.
Fail: Butler has played a cupcake schedule, and they were not prepared for this game.
